Reduces waste
Recycling, important though it is, isn’t waste minimisation. Waste minimisation is all about reducing waste at source — not creating it in the first place.
The re-usable Cross-Bone:
- Can help your company meet QUENSH (Quality Environmental Safety and Health) and waste management requirements
- Reduces the amount of on site materials that need to be purchased and disposed of
- Increases profits - waste costs money, typically up to 4% of business turnover, and by finding ways to reduce waste your company could become more profitable
- Minimises waste and disposal costs
- Helps you comply with new regulations
- Helps you adopt best practices and raise standards
- Improves resource efficiency - not just an environmental initiative, it is also an important business process that could potentially save your organisation a lot of money
From October 2007 in England and Wales Site Waste Management Plans (SWMPs) will be required on almost every site; local authorities are already requesting these as a part of planning permission. SWMPs are set to become a legal requirement by April 2008 to reduce waste produced on construction sites.
What you must do
The Duty of Care affects all businesses. You must make sure:
- Your waste is stored, handled, recycled or disposed of safely and legally and only by licensed individuals or businesses
- You record all transfers of waste between your business and another business, using a waste transfer note (WTN)
- You keep all WTNs, signed by both businesses, for at least two years
- You keep all consignment notes, signed by both businesses, for at least three years
Using the Cross-Bone eliminates the time and money wasted having to carry out these regulatory procedures.
The waste reduction benefits are automatically repeated on every additional site that each Cross-Bone system is used on.
